Great review! I also recently read this. I was raised Catholic but don't practice any longer. I thought the focus on religion would put me off the book, but I actually really liked this novel. I didn't feel it was overwhelmingly religious, despite the setting and the other characters, or that the author was trying to push the reader one way or the other. It felt pretty straightforward, if that makes any sense!
