The further I got in Bad Blood the more stunned I became. It’s amazing that in this day and age, she got as far as she did.

I’d love to hear what someone I trust thinks of The Topeka School, so let me know if you do get to it. If the book had stayed with Adam, it might have been good, but it jumped around all over the place.

I probably will try out the Ben Lerner book sometime (maybe not right away) …. I will take your comments as a warning — sounds like it’s all over the place. Not sure I even care now (before the book) about what it’s about … or the characters … but perhaps “Adam” will have some humor or insight??

It worked for Holmes (for a while) because she did not solicit VC money from anyone who specialized in medical devices. She parlayed an image and conned a lot of people (CEO of Safeway?) who should have known better; she never had a tested, proven product. That’s what FOMO can do. I couldn’t put it down. Of course, there was a lot of media about Theranos here in San Francisco long before this book came out.

I have The Topeka School on hold but have read several reviews like yours. Good to know because I have a lot of holds coming up right now so easier to have one on a short leash if necessary.
