Frankie and Stankie is another good book about growing up under apartheid — by the fabulous author Barbara Trapido. (While born in SA she immigrated to the UK as a young woman. I don’t know how well known she is now but Brother of the More Famous Jack and The Travelling Hornplayer are long time favorites of mine.)

In reply to Sarah's Book Shelves. Well, there was a little more tie in with Cat than that, but I didn't want to give away that part. Also, she used Cat when there were feelings/emotions she couldn't deal with herself. It just seemed like too much though.
