Fortunately able to jigger things around to hold the Anne Tyler and another. (I think Tyler is close to being America’s greatest living writer. “Accidental Tourist” and “Breathing Lessons” are classics.)

This is still on the list but easily dumped if necessary. I’ve read 73 this year but am about to dive into researching a couple of upcoming museum Special Exhibitions. Which brings a 1938 book on WWI German propaganda which I just picked up today! Don’t think it’s on any TBR list 🙂

Sounds like one to skip. While I can handle lots of unlikeable characters, it does have to be well-executed. It’s kind of hard to believe a modern book that hinges on a crisis leaves out the media element. That feels like an editing fail.

This was a DNF for me and I didn’t even get to “the crisis that wasn’t” but that would’ve been something I would’ve been irritated by. Thanks for confirming I made the right decision by DNFing this one Susie!!

I have it on hold so I’ll decide when it comes up. Not looking good though as I didn’t much care for “The Hopefuls” and I intensely disliked “Swimming Lessons.” So I’m 0-3.

I don’t mind disliking characters but it sounds like this is not the type of book that you should. And, yes, the weird unreported “crisis” sounds beyond belief.

In fact, I’m up to my limit on holds. May back off this one.

I think “the crisis that wasn’t” would’ve been a big issue for me too. Though I was tempted by its Manhattan setting, I think I’ll let this one go.
