Great review! I agree that Russell did an amazing job at bringing out all the layers to this situation. It wasn’t easy reading, but I’m glad I did.

In reply to susan. I don't think my perspective is all that different from anyone else's. I've never seen a student-teacher relationship up close. There was one in my district a few years back, but it was quickly swept under the rug. I suppose this book was similar in that way, though I didn't even think about that as I was reading it. (Ours was a female teacher.) This really was more about the rest of Vanessa's life and how the relationship affected her long term.

I feel a bit ambivalent or hesitant … though I’m sure it offers some worthwhile issues. I haven’t decided on this one. As a teacher, you must have had a unique perspective about it? Or not more than anyone else?
