I don’t mind series, but would prefer them to be able to stand on their own without having big cliff hangers that force you to read the next book. My biggest pet peeve is books where the perfectly capable women have to be paired off with a man by the end! Can the author not just write the book with the protagonist perfectly happy with her life without a love interest?

Angela’s Ashes was one of the books that turned me off of Ireland!
