I had Dan Moore down for a part in this about 1/3 of the way through -- when Rachel is in the library and sees a photo shortly after the car accident and Dan is there with Daddy Sheriff with his arm in a sling. No explanation about that ever.

The part with Kelly not finishing her testimony drove me crazy.

The double story was done poorly. Obviously the two were going to intertwine so it didn't take much to find the boys to men who were the connectors. A better story teller could have made the older story less obvious.

And yes, to all Susie's issues. Especially that the swimmer would have had prior bad acts.

Everyone wants to write books like this. Not many can do it well.

COMPLETELY agree, and so happy someone else felt the same way, because I know this one has been getting a lot of buzz and hype and I just felt like I read a different book. Everything was so convenient, and it was like she was trying to cram in a million different books into one without ever really saying anything!

I hadn't really thought about the fact that it was a BOTM pick. I find that surprising as I found it so mediocre. I hope you enjoy the David Joy book!
