Favorite Books of November 2023

I know November is long gone, but things have been a little hectic lately! I’d originally thought I’d do a combined post on my favorite November AND December books, but turns out my December reading has been mostly backlist or 2024 books. When I finally sat down to do this post, I realized the four recent books I wanted to share were all ones I read in November. Of those, only one was actually published in November, with the other three coming out earlier in the year. The four books also couldn’t be much different from each other, too. There’s a fun caper story, a day in the life of an angsty mom, a literary historical fiction, and even a spy thriller!

Favorite Books of January 2023

My January reading has been all over the place. I’ve read 17 books which is an all time high for me. Of those, I’ve truly loved four books, at least a couple already in contention for Best Books of 2023. That’s awesome and I’m excited to share those books, here, but none come out this month, so you’ll have to wait for my February and March posts. Books released in January have had me more in a so-so range. However, the three I’m sharing today were the bright spots among my January books.

Favorite Books of June 2022

Well, the end of June is almost upon us and the world seems even more upside down than it did at the start of the month. Nothing surprises me anymore, but that doesn’t mean I’m not devastated. We are on a slippery slope and if the “majority” of Americans who say they believe in women’s reproductive rights, who say they believe in same-sex marriage, who say they believe in racial equality, who say they want stronger gun laws, don’t start voting that way, then we are lost. Okay, rant over!

June has been a fantastic reading month for me. I could easily highlight many more books than the three I’ve selected. These each are here because they’re a little different and a lot of fun. I don’t want to leave the others completely out, so am including the titles and links to my Instagram reviews at the bottom of this post to fully cover my favorite books of June….

January 2022 Audiobook Reviews

Happy New Year! I know that’s a little late..a lot late, but this is my first post of the year, so it’s time. Thanks to COVID we’ve entered the year with a bang. Despite all the advice to avoid travel, I didn’t. I traveled over Christmas, came home to a bunch of snow, and then hopped on a plane a week later. That trip was to Denver for my niece Megan’s baby shower. I’m so glad I went and the I managed not to get sick. Since that trip, I’ve mostly stayed close to home. Through it all, I’ve managed to get quite a bit of reading done, so am sharing audiobooks today and will share books I read in print on Thursday. I hope you’ll find a few you like.

There’s a lot of variety in the audiobooks I listened to this month, both nonfiction and fiction. The great news is I liked them all!…

AUDIOBOOKS ~ My Favorites from 2021

2021 turned out to be sort of a strange year for me with audiobooks. I felt like I hadn’t listened to as many as usual, but when I looked at my stats, I really had. For the last several years, audiobooks have made up about a third of my reading and I think that’s an ideal balance for me. Still, I found myself much more impatient with audiobooks. They really needed to grab me quickly. I feel like I was more willing to give books in print a long try, but audiobooks I wanted to work immediately. So, you can be sure that the nine favorites I’m sharing today were all excellent….

October 2021 Audiobook Reviews

Happy Halloween! I know the little trick-or-treaters in my family are very excited. How about yours? I don’t do the spooky October thing, so the books I listened to were just what happened to come up, and my listening this month was a little slower than usual. I’m not really sure why that was, but I did manage to get in three audiobooks that I truly enjoyed. Perhaps it was in part because they were each so different, filling in space of what I needed in the moment. One was a buzzy thriller, another, a highly lauded novel, and the third an oral history ripe for our times.

No matter what your listening taste one of these audiobooks should work for you and as an added bonus, none are overly long!…

Audiobooks You’ll Love Listening To! | Review

Hard to believe it’s already the end of September! Time marches on and I’m just beginning to realize I’m actually retired. The first half of the month I was on a trip, so it still felt like summer. Now that I’m home and NOT going to work, it’s a whole new ball game! During the last month or so, I’ve listened to quite a few audiobooks. Most I liked, couple I didn’t, but two rise above the others, falling into that category of “audiobooks you’ll love listening to!”

So, if you’re on the hunt for a great audiobook, read on because these are two I’d highly recommend….

July 2021 Audiobook Reviews

Thanks to a couple long drives this month I was able to complete three (almost four) audiobooks. Of those, it was definitely a mixed bag. All entertained, but the one that truly stood out was a complete surprise to me!

I’ve struggled a bit finding audiobooks I really love this year, so if you’ve got any great recommendations, I’d love you to share….

Favorite Books from May and June

Happy first day of summer! It’s been a LONG time since I’ve posted here and I’m so sorry about that. I’d planned to post May books at the end of last month, but then my mother suddenly got sick and ended up in the hospital. My siblings and I flew in and were with her for a few days before she peacefully passed away. I had just been to see her two weeks before she died and though her dementia was progressing to a concerning point, we went out and did things, visited with relatives, etc. So, it was a shock to lose her from what was really a minor infection. We’re doing a celebration of life for her in July.

On a happier note, I decided to retire a little earlier than I had originally planned, so as this posts I am done! I made the decision so late in the year that it still doesn’t feel real, but I know it will come fall when I don’t head back to the classroom. I’m very excited and looking forward to the freedom, the ability to spend more time with my family, and to be able to travel in seasons other than summer.

And finally, I’ve been having my kitchen and bathroom remodeled over the last few months, so life has been insane!

Despite all that, I have still been getting some reading done, so I have eight favorite books to share today. The best part is I enjoyed them all very much! (For more timely reviews of all the books I’ve read, you can follow me on Instagram @novelvisits.)…

April Audiobook Reviews

It’s been an interesting year for me and audiobooks. Typically, I have many audiobooks that I just love, but this year that hasn’t quite happened. Instead, I have lots of audiobooks that I really liked. It’s probably just me and my crazy life right now, making it a little harder for me to connect on audio. I’m still on the hunt for that “A” audiobook, but for today I’m sharing four audiobooks that did their job – they entertained me….
