You’d think that having a four-day weekend would give me loads of time for reading, but that just wasn’t the case. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with much needed family time, laughter, and great food. The rest of the weekend was competely packed with lots of different activities, none of which involved reading! I had thought I might get some reading done in the evenings before falling asleep, but sadly, I never lasted long. My longest stretches of reading all week occurred on plane rides which were only two hours long. Which is all to say, I didn’t finish a single book last week! I’m close, but not done.
Currently Reading:
I’m currently about 90% of the way through Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. I had resisted this book for awhile, but now I am so glad I’m reading it. This is a story about racism and at every turn it will cause you to really, really think. I find myself over and over thinking things like, “I never realized,” or “What do I do in that type of situation?” (Plus, it’s a great story!)
Likely to Read Next:
Last week I mentioned The Sleepwalker by Chris Bohjalian as a book I wanted to read next. This week I will definitely treat myself to it, and to what I anticipate being a most pleasant read. I am excited for this one! I also must get to The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. His novel won the National Book Award for Fiction this year. How could I, a lover of great fiction, finish out the year an not read The Underground Railroad?
Have a great week of reading!

Sounds like a wonderful long weekend, despite not reading. I’m still undecided about reading The Underground Railroad… maybe if you choose that next you can help me decide!

Excited to know what you think of those three!!! 😀

Sounds better than I thought! I used to love Ms. Picoult and scooped up all her back titles but then I found her a bit predictable, and didn’t enjoy the recent book about her taking care of wolves in a sanctuary, even though I love animals. But I like to explore plots and themes that deal with sociological issues, of course not being dense since it’s written by this fiction author. Thanks… look forward to your thoughts. And I love some Bohjalian books too, and haven’t read this one yet. I returned Underground Railroad to the library because I started feeling depressed reading it, I don’t know, maybe my mood and I’ll pick it up at a later date.

I generally agree with you about Jodi Picoult. This was my first book of hers in years, so we’ll see how I feel in the end. Good to know about Underground Railroad. For some reason I keep pushing it back in the TRB pile!

Your Thanksgiving weekend sounds like mine! Less reading than I’d hoped for and a hard time staying awake to read much once I got in bed.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Sleepwalker! I’ll be reading it around Xmas time most likely. And I too haven’t yet read Underground Railroad.

I’m probably going to read The Sleepwalker soon, but won’t review it until close to the release date. I just have felt that I need a reading “treat.” However, Behind the Wind might fix that!

Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving! I’ve heard a ton about all the titles in your post but haven’t read them myself. I’m looking forward to your thoughts. 🙂

I’m looking forward to reading “The Underground Railroad,” but I’m over 200 places behind on the library hold list so it’s going to be a while!
