Thanks to the MLK holiday today, I have had the most relaxing weekend in a long, long time. I was able to accomplish a lot, but also indulged in some uninterrupted reading time that I savored without worrying about everything else I “should” be doing. I hope the same is true for you!
Last Weeks Reads:
So many of you told me that I would love Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller and you were so right! I’m still asking myself how I missed this one. I won’t make that mistake with Fuller’s next book, Swimming Lessons (see below). I’m planning on reviewing them together early in February. I’m excited to say that I finally read My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout, one of my 2016 backlist books. I read this slim, beautifully written book in a single day and loved it. My (very late) review will be next week.
Currently Reading:
I’m still in search of the first 2017 debut to really amaze me. I just started The Animators by Kayla Rae Whitaker, so it’s definitely too early to tell. This book has a lot of elements I like: female friendship, art, creativity, and of course twists in the road to success. Fingers crossed!
Likely To Read Next:
Next is always a big question mark for me. I know generally where I’m headed, but might take different paths to get there. One book I will definitely read in the next couple of weeks is Desperation Road, a psychological thriller by Michael Farris Smith. Swimming Lessons, Claire Fuller’s second novel will be another definite read for me. I have high expectations after Our Endless Numbered Days! Depending on what else comes up, I’d like to squeeze in another 2016 book and Homegoing, the much praised debut by Yaa Gyasi, is at the top of that list.
Have A great week of reading!

So glad you loved Endless Numbered Days and Lucy Barton! Did you know Strout is coming out with a companion novel in April?
I’m also planning to read Desperation Road and Swimming Lessons in the next few weeks.

I did know that Strout has the companion book coming out and now I’m really looking forward to it.
Our reading paths seem to always be crossing. (Makes it fun!)

So glad you enjoyed Our Endless Numbered Days! I think I’m in the minority with Lucy Barton, but I read it late last year and phew…it just was not a book for me (but I also didn’t like her previous book either).
Glad to hear The Animators sounds promising so far!

I didn’t like Olive Kitteridge either, and that’s why it took me so long to decide to even try Lucy!

Glad to hear you enjoyed Our Endless Numbered Days – isn’t it lovely stumbling across a book you missed upon release only to absolutely love it. I look forward to your review of both Claire Fuller’s books next month.
I don’t read too many debuts or newly released books, but I have yet to find a book that has totally blown me away so far this year (early days of course), I’m hoping one of my current books proves to be that title.
It sounds like you had a lovely weekend! Happy reading!

Glad to see you enjoyed Our Endless Numbered Days. I’m looking forward to your reviews on both her novels. Reading of your hunt for a 2017 debut made me look back on my own reading…I have yet to read a 2017 release! Hoping to fix that soon, perhaps with Swimming Lessons! Happy reading ☺

These are all new to me. We didn’t have MLK Day off but ended up coming home early because of an approaching storm (which hasn’t yet arrived.) You can see my week here. Happy reading!

“Homegoing” was my favorite book in 2016! I just loved the innovative structure and the amazing storytelling.
I also enjoyed “Our Endless Numbered Days” when I read it back in 2015 and I’m really looking forward to “Swimming Lessons.” It sounds totally different but equally intriguing!

Oooh, I really hope you are able to get to Homegoing; it was definitely a winner, for me. I keep saying that I’m going to read Lucy Barton and haven’t done it yet; I need to make it happen! I am very interested to hear what you think of both The Animators and Desperation Road; I’m curious about both of them, but have yet to seek out a copy of my own. I really, REALLY, hope that you have a good experience with Swimming Lessons; I feel like I am in the minority, but I did not enjoy it. Hope you are enjoying the day and what a GREAT weekend!!

Homegoing was a really good read. I think I might be the last person to not read Claire Fuller. I really need to pick up one of her books soon!
