December tends to be a slower publishing month, so I was a bit worried I’d not have three favorites to share this month. Thanks to a couple books I missed earlier this year, plus an absolutely sensational December book, I’ve got three great book recommendations. In case you missed it, I posted both my Best Books of 2022 and My Favorite Debuts of 2022 last week. They’re both fun lists, but I may be biased.

Best Books of 2022

Finally! Not a completely normal year, but getting closer. 2022 was my first full year of retirement and I have to say, it feels good! I absolutely love the joy and freedom it brings. I got to travel quite a bit which felt wonderful (And, I only came home with COVID one of those times!) The elections were…the elections, but the world doesn’t feel quite so upside-down right now.

On the book side of things, 2022 was a very good year. I read the most books I ever have with 148 finished as I write this, and I’m confident I can make it to 150 before the end of the year. Even better is the fact that this was such a GREAT year for high quality writing, book after book. I never really slumped. Last week , I shared My Favorite Debuts of 2022 and getting that list down to 10 was no easy task! For my Best Books of 2022, I couldn’t do it! I was swimming in wonderful stories. In the end, I had to go with 12 books. I included no nonfiction because I really didn’t read much this year and the only one that might have had a chance, I’ll be sharing here next week. These 12 books are the ones that spoke to me loudest, that stayed with me longest, that I want to press in everyone’s hands, my Best Books of 2022!…

DEBUTS ~ My Favorites of 2022

You all know I love reading debuts and in 2022 I’ve read more than ever. The year has been my biggest reading year ever, with 147 books finished as I write this. (Thank you retirement!) Of those, 59 have been debuts; that’s 40% of my reading. That percentage is up a little from last couple years and it’s no big surprise because it’s been a year of many fabulous debuts. Paring down 59 books to only 10 was no easy task. I could easily have included many more books here, but had to cut it off somewhere, so these are my ten favorite debuts from 2022. 2022 Hyped Books

Every year certain books get a lot of hype and that can be for various reasons. Most often it’s from the publishing industry, but sometimes it grows more organically from readers themselves. They hype can feel well deserved or it can feel like a whole lot of nothing. Undoubtedly, the opinions on hyped books vary from reader to reader. So today I’m sharing my opinions on Six 2022 Books That Deserved the Hype, Plus Six That Didn’t.

2022 Underrated Gems

Now that December is here, you’re going to be seeing end-of-year lists all over the place. I’m kicking mine off with one of my very favorites, Underrated Gems. These are the books that just didn’t seem to get the attention that I think they deserved. Obviously, each of the books here I enjoyed immensely and I think others will, too. So, if you’re looking for something a little different or want a book that everyone else hasn’t read, please consider one of these.

A really bizarre thing about my underrated gems this year…they are ALL debuts. You may be seeing one or two later this month when I do my Best Debuts of 2022….

Favorite Books of November 2022

With Thanksgiving is behind us, I hope yours was lovely and that the rush of holiday madness in front of us will be filled with laughter. It’s difficult to believe that there is only one more month left in this year. Time truly flies, even as the world sometimes feels a little upside down. But, let’s not worry about any of that, instead let’s talk books. 2022 has been an amazing year for books and I’ve got three November favorites to share today.

Favorite Books of October 2022

I have had quite a month and it has little to do with books. For the first time in well over three years I traveled outside the United States, spending two wonderful weeks in Morocco. We traversed the country by car which at times was an adventure in itself. This was a bucket list trip for me and it did not disappoint. I’ve been asked over and over what I liked the best, but the list is far too long. For cites, Marrakesh and Chefchaouen top the list, but the Sahara and the High Atlas Mountains with their beautiful gorges were also wonderful. The delicious food and many kind, friendly people were true highlights. It’s definitely a trip I’ll never forget!

Despite the travel, I did manage to read some books this month and am very excited to share my favorite three with you today. All were written by authors I’ve read and loved before, so expectations were high and they did not disappoint! These three books could not be more different, yet each was wonderful in its own way. Favorite Books of September 2022

Fall is officially here, though it always feels like fall to me as soon as kids go back to school. It’s impossible to get rid of those teacher habits, but this fall I’m learning a fun new habit, that of fall vacations. I spent 10 days this month enjoying Sunriver, Oregon after all the summer crowds were over and it was delightful. Next month, I’m heading to Morocco for two weeks and could not be more excited for that trip. Because of that, I don’t anticipate getting a ton of reading done in October, so I’ve tried to go hard this month. I’ve read some really great September books…and some stinkers. Today I’m sharing two I loved, and one I liked and felt compelled to share because, well, it’s Backman!

Favorite Books of August 2022

How’s your summer been? Starting to wind down a bit? Mine has been spent at home much more than usual, but I’ve also been able to enjoy a full gorgeous Pacific Northwest August which I don’t think I’ve done in many years. Being retired has its benefits, including travel in the fall. I have two trips coming up, one in September and finally an international trip in October. Waiting for those, I’ve plowed through quite a few books again this month. Too many have been just okay, so it was easy picking out the three that truly stood out. I hope you might enjoy these, too. Fall Preview 2022

I can hardly believe it, but this is my last preview for 2022. Where does time go? Well, to be honesty, a good chunk of my time goes to books. This has already been an amazing year in books and I think the fall releases are only going to add to that list. Thanks to debut authors, repeat authors and new-to-me authors, I had a VERY hard time cutting my Fall Preview 2022 down to just twenty books. In fact, I decided to leave off my two most highly anticipated releases of the season. Both Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid and The Winners by Fredrik Backman have already been all over the place and I’ve already reviewed both on Instagram, so you can check out my full thoughts there.
