You know that feeling when you finish a book with great writing and you just want more? Then you realize that the book you just finished wasn’t the author’s first and you’re left wondering, “Where have I been?!?” Today as part of Top Ten Tuesday I’m looking at ten established authors who were new-to-me in 2017. Some I want to go back and read their earlier books, and all I’ll be keeping on my radar to see what they do next!

Reading Outside My Comfort Zone | More

Today’s topic on A Month of Favorites, hosted by Traveling with T, Estella’s Revenge, and GirlXOXO is “Reading Outside My Comfort Zone.” Being really honest, I have to say that this isn’t something I do a lot of. I have a pretty clear picture of the types of books I like and usually try to stick to those. Occasionally, I’ll be in the mood for something different, read about a book that piques my interest, or get a recommendation so good I can’t ignore it. Then I’ll read outside my comfort zone! Today I’m sharing three books in this category that I really, really enjoyed.

Youngblood by Matt Gallagher – This story of a young lieutenant trying to lead and do what he feels is right was a great surprise to me. I tend to hesitate when it comes to war stories, but I saw a lot written about the book, and was intrigued enough to give it a try. Gallagher did a brilliant job with the setting of this novel. I felt like I was in Iraq, walking the streets with Lieutenant Porter. The tension in the story made it hard to put down.

10 Books on My Winter 2017 Reading List | Review

Today the women at The Broke and the Bookish chose “Top Ten Books I’m Looking Forward to In 2017″ for their theme. Traveling with T, Estella’s Revenge, and GirlXOXO who are hosting A Month of Favorites this holiday season also picked “Books on My Winter Reading List.” So, today I’m linking up with both to share with you ten books that I’m incredibly excited to read! 2017 is already looking like an amazing reading year and for me some of the very best reading is done snuggled up on the couch with a fire going. Bring on the 2017 books!

Idaho by Emily Ruskovich (January 3) – A debut novel told from multiple perspectives, Idaho is the story of a woman trying to put together the missing pieces of her husband’s life. As his mind is fading, she becomes increasingly vested in finding out what happened to his first wife.

Lucky Boy by Shanthi Sekaran (January 10) – The story of a young boy and the two mothers who love him. When his undocumented mother is placed in immigration detention, the boy falls under the care of an infertile woman who has longed for a child. Both of these good women lay claim on the “Lucky Boy.”…

A Month of Favorites 2016: This is How I Read | More

Three great blogs, Traveling with T, Estella’s Revenge, and GirlXOXO are hosting A Month of Favorites this holiday season. Each day they set a theme or topic for book bloggers to contribute to. I’m going to try to participate in a few of these throughout the month starting with today!

Today’s topic is “This is How We Read.” It’s just a little peek into a reader’s life.

Number of books read this year: Goodreads and I disagree on this. They say 63, but my records show 65. Either way it’s fewer than I’d like. One huge lesson I’ve learned this year is that starting and maintaining a book blog really cuts into your reading time!…
