I don’t quite know how it’s happened, but I have a lot of books sitting on my review shelves and it’s definitely time to clear them out. My reading has slowed down this month with only 8 books completed, but at the end of August I was way ahead on my September reading, so had plenty of books to review. I’ve also ended up with a record 6 books that I’ve yet to review. To be honest, two of those I actually finished in the very end of August, but too late to get them in last month’s Clearing the Shelves. Since I have so many book here, I’m going to keep my thoughts VERY brief, sort of micro mini-reviews. Enough with excuses! On to the reviews, but first my favorite books from September:…

Good thing I read a lot of books earlier this month because this last week was all fits and starts. Keeping up with a 2-year old and 5-year old leaves little time for anything else. Bravo to all of you who do it every single day. My reading was off, but I can’t really blame the kiddos. My choices weren’t great, either. I did get one huge project done last week though; I finished my Novel Visits Fall Preview 2018 and will be sharing the 16 fall release books I’m most looking forward to tomorrow. You’ll want a paper and pen handy for this one!

Last Week’s Read

I started out the week reading The Oracle Year by Charles Soule, but by the midpoint I just couldn’t do it anymore….

You might remember that last month I reached a bit of a crisis point (or as much of a crisis point as books can cause!) when I realized that the quality of books I’ve been reading seemed to have deteriorated. I wrote about it in my post Heading Down the Rabbit Hole With Books. One of the “fixes” I talked about there was to DNF books more often and sooner. That can be a challenge for me because I often feel like if I read one more chapter the book will suddenly become amazing. Not finishing a book is a skill I’m still working to get better at. Despite that, I didn’t have much trouble coming up with ten recent books I just couldn’t finish.

Last week I published my list of “The Best Books of 2017,” including twelve amazing books that made me very happy. But, things aren’t always sunshine and light in my little world of books. In fact 2017 felt like a particularly rough year with a bad fall slump and a higher number of books than usual that just didn’t work for me. Sometimes I quit on those, but other times I soldiered on and wished I hadn’t! Today I’m joining up with A Month of Favorites, looking at ten 2017 books that just didn’t win me over. …
