Favorite Books of January 2023

My January reading has been all over the place. I’ve read 17 books which is an all time high for me. Of those, I’ve truly loved four books, at least a couple already in contention for Best Books of 2023. That’s awesome and I’m excited to share those books, here, but none come out this month, so you’ll have to wait for my February and March posts. Books released in January have had me more in a so-so range. However, the three I’m sharing today were the bright spots among my January books.

Favorite Books of July 2022

How’s your summer going? Mine has been a little strange, but things are settling down. I’m lucky to be spending time in beautiful Sunriver, Oregon relaxing, playing, and going on adventures with family. It’s a gorgeous area and being here always revives me. Before I headed out, I did a lot of July reading and it was a bit of a roller coaster, but the highs were HIGH. This month’s favorites, which includes a 6/28 release, brought four (FOUR!) books that will at least be in the running for my Best Books of 2022. One might even be THE Best book.

So, to be clear, I HIGHLY recommend all of these books. You can’t go wrong with any of them!…

AUDIOBOOKS ~ My Favorites from 2021

2021 turned out to be sort of a strange year for me with audiobooks. I felt like I hadn’t listened to as many as usual, but when I looked at my stats, I really had. For the last several years, audiobooks have made up about a third of my reading and I think that’s an ideal balance for me. Still, I found myself much more impatient with audiobooks. They really needed to grab me quickly. I feel like I was more willing to give books in print a long try, but audiobooks I wanted to work immediately. So, you can be sure that the nine favorites I’m sharing today were all excellent….

October 2021 Audiobook Reviews

Happy Halloween! I know the little trick-or-treaters in my family are very excited. How about yours? I don’t do the spooky October thing, so the books I listened to were just what happened to come up, and my listening this month was a little slower than usual. I’m not really sure why that was, but I did manage to get in three audiobooks that I truly enjoyed. Perhaps it was in part because they were each so different, filling in space of what I needed in the moment. One was a buzzy thriller, another, a highly lauded novel, and the third an oral history ripe for our times.

No matter what your listening taste one of these audiobooks should work for you and as an added bonus, none are overly long!…

July 2021 Audiobook Reviews

Thanks to a couple long drives this month I was able to complete three (almost four) audiobooks. Of those, it was definitely a mixed bag. All entertained, but the one that truly stood out was a complete surprise to me!

I’ve struggled a bit finding audiobooks I really love this year, so if you’ve got any great recommendations, I’d love you to share….

It’s been an interesting year for me and audiobooks. Typically, I have many audiobooks that I just love, but this year that hasn’t quite happened. Instead, I have lots of audiobooks that I really liked. It’s probably just me and my crazy life right now, making it a little harder for me to connect on audio. I’m still on the hunt for that “A” audiobook, but for today I’m sharing four audiobooks that did their job – they entertained me….

AUDIOBOOKS – My Favorites from 2020

There’s no denying it, 2020 has been a really awful year in so many ways. COVID, the election season, figuring out how to work remotely, and a couple of family tragedies all played into making my reading tastes really different this year. I tended to go for lighter books and that was especially true when it came to audiobooks. Thanks to lots of walking, I made up for not commuting and kept my number of audiobooks up to about a third of my reading or 36 books listened to as of this writing. Today I’m sharing my nine favorite audiobooks released in 2020. I also listened to some amazing backlist audiobooks that I’ll be sharing in a post later this month. Now on to my faves!…

September Audiobook Reviews

The last month has been a crazy time for me. First, I was spending a lot of time trying to get ready for the start of this online school year. Then, it actually began and my days have been so much longer than when we’re actually in school. Top that off with ten days of smoky/hazardous air quality where I couldn’t get outside for a walk, and my listening time has suffered! Still, I’m happy to have three audiobooks to share with you today….

My Week in Books (x2) for 8/17/20 | More

I’ve been absent from the blog for two weeks and those weeks have been both wonderful and awful. On the wonderful side I’ve spent the entire time in beautiful Sunriver, OR where my sister and brother-in-law live part of the year. My son and his family were also here for a week, and we had lots of fun with them, especially my 4 and 2-year old grandkids. On the awful side, my elderly mother’s longtime boyfriend/partner died Friday in a tragic accident. Her whole world revolved around him and we are very worried about her. My sister and I will be driving down to Reno to pick her up and bring her back to Sunriver for a while. It’s a week when I should be getting home and start serious work to be prepared for being fully online come September 8th, but obviously, Mom comes first right now.

It’s been a slow reading time for me and I know I haven’t been sharing reviews here, but I have on Instagram (@novelvisits) and I will definitely put together an August Mini-Reviews post before the end of the month. On Tuesday the 25th, I’ll be publishing my Fall Preview 2020 where I hope you’ll find many great books to look forward to.

My Week in Books for 7/6/20 | More

I hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July, even if it is a very strange year! Mine was much quieter than I’d expected. I thought I’d be in Montana with my family, but that trip was cut incredibly short. The same day I arrived, we got word that my granddaughter Olivia may have been exposed to COVID. Because I have an underlying health condition that puts me at risk, and because getting testing done in their small town was going to be slow, we made the difficult decision that I should not stay. It was painful and there were a lot of tears. The good news now is that she did not get COVID and the bad news is I wish I’d stayed. It’s been a very difficult week. Hopefully, I can try again in a few weeks, though the way this country is looking right now is not very promising. I did get a lot of extra audiobooks in on the drive, so I guess that counts as a bright spot!
