You all know I love reading debuts and in 2022 I’ve read more than ever. The year has been my biggest reading year ever, with 147 books finished as I write this. (Thank you retirement!) Of those, 59 have been debuts; that’s 40% of my reading. That percentage is up a little from last couple years and it’s no big surprise because it’s been a year of many fabulous debuts. Paring down 59 books to only 10 was no easy task. I could easily have included many more books here, but had to cut it off somewhere, so these are my ten favorite debuts from 2022. You can be sure several will make my Best Books of 2022 next week. That’s also where you’ll find out which of these was my #1 debut of the year. And now, in order of publication only:…

I’ve always held a special place in my heart for debuts. There’s just something about an author’s first book that shines a little brighter and draws me to its flame. I feel like writers have held that first story inside of them for a very long time and when they finally put it out there it can be stunning. I’m such a fan, I’ve devoted an entire section in my review index to DEBUTS. 2018 proved to be a terrific year for debuts, and today I’m sharing my eight favorites from both fiction and nonfiction. Check back on Thursday, December 20th to see how many of these books make it to my Best Books of 2018 list. (I can guarantee it will be more than one!)…

It combined the real life of famed model/photographer Lee Miller with that of its main fictional character, Nora Tours. Much of the book took place in one of my very favorite, locales, Paris and it spanned a favorite era, the 1920’s through WWII. Plus, the story itself was excellent!…

August is upon us and my month started out with a very eventful week. It was my birthday on Thursday and that night I got together with friends for cocktails and celebration. The next day one of my sons and his little family came for a short visit. But, the day before my birthday, I had a small mishap that left me with bruised ribs, a sprained wrist, stitches in my forehead, and the worst black-eye you’ve ever seen. The gash in my forehead tore a small artery and the amount of bleeding was amazing! I feel moistly fine now, but look horrendous. Even big sunglasses don’t fully cover the bruising. I wish I could just hideout with books for the next couple weeks, but that’s not going to be possible. I hope your week was not quite as eventful!

It’s hard to believe, but 2018 is already half over. Is it just me, or is time simply moving faster and faster? I think it’s an age thing. The older we get the faster time seems to move. Oh, well. It’s summer and that means family, vacations, fun and extra reading time. I can only hope that the rest of my summer reading is half as stellar as June books were. Three out of the nine books on My Favorite Books of 2018 (so far) list from earlier in the week were June releases. Making June my best month of the year, by far!

With the end of June nearly here and half the year already over, it’s a good time to look back at the best of books for 2018…so far. Despite the fact that I’ve mused on too many books I either DNF’d or didn’t really love, when looking back I find that 2018 books have also provided a lot of pleasure and a rich variety of stories. For that I’m truly thankful!

Initially, I planned on doing ten books, but had a four way tie for that last slot. Instead, today I’m sharing the nine books that for me clearly rose above all others in the first half of 2018. (In order of publication date and nothing more!)…

In my life, summer is such a great time for reading. For some reason, with summer books especially, I can often remember exactly where I was or what I was doing as I read it. Today I’m sharing 10 books I read during the summers of the last few years. I tried to keep it on the lighter, “beach read” side of things, but in the summer I also have extra time to devote to more complex journeys. I hope you find a book or two you might have missed and can enjoy over your own summer.

There is just something special about the combination of summer and books. For me I think it’s the luxury of time that I just don’t get the rest of the year. My summer doesn’t official begin for another four weeks, but with Memorial Day coming up, I’m mentally already there! My mind is drifting off to that slower, relaxed pace of summer where reading on the front porch for hours happens almost daily. With all that time, I’ll definitely be turning to some backlist books, but I’m also eager to dive into new releases coming out in June, July and August. I shared a few June releases in my Spring Preview 2018, so if you notice a book missing from the June list it’s probably there. Grab your TBR list. You’re going to be adding to it!…
