I usually wait until the very end of the month, but thought it was time to shine a light on these October releases. Each of the four books is unique and a little unsettling, but all in very different ways. Some I enjoyed, one I decidedly did not! So, let’s get to my October mini-reviews for all the gritty details….

I don’t quite know how it’s happened, but I have a lot of books sitting on my review shelves and it’s definitely time to clear them out. My reading has slowed down this month with only 8 books completed, but at the end of August I was way ahead on my September reading, so had plenty of books to review. I’ve also ended up with a record 6 books that I’ve yet to review. To be honest, two of those I actually finished in the very end of August, but too late to get them in last month’s Clearing the Shelves. Since I have so many book here, I’m going to keep my thoughts VERY brief, sort of micro mini-reviews. Enough with excuses! On to the reviews, but first my favorite books from September:…

It’s that time of the month again when my book review shelves need to be cleared. My reading pace this whole summer has been fast for me at about 11 books per month. That’s sure to slow WAY down as I’m back at work this week and won’t be spending lazy days on my front porch reading for hours any longer. (So sad!) Still, I appreciate all the extra time I’ve had AND just how great books have been for me this summer. Today I’ll be sharing three that I just haven’t managed to clear off my shelves yet, but first, I want to remind you of my favorite August books:…

The second half of June I was doing a lot of traveling and just never got around to do a Clearing the Shelves post, so this month you’re getting a double dose. Today I’m sharing five books that I haven’t yet reviewed and I’ve got a big variety for you. Among these books are three nonfiction and two fiction, two I listened to on audio and the other three I read most. Overall, these books were very successful for me, contributing to a great summer of reading including these favorites from the last couple months:

With the end of the month here, I have three unreviewed books from April and one I never got to back in March. Two I read in print and the other two I listened to. It’s time to clear the shelves!…

As some of you may already know, normally at the end of the month I do a Wrapping It Up! post summarizing books I read for the month and sharing favorite bookish links. While there was much I liked about those wrap ups, there was MUCH more that I didn’t. They took me forever to write and didn’t really do that well. So, I’m letting them go this year and starting a new feature, Clearing the Shelves. I’ve done a few Clearing the Shelves posts over the last year. Those came up whenever I got really backed up with reviews. For 2019, I’m going to try and be more systematic, doing one Clearing the Shelves post at the end of each month. Some months that may only be a couple of reviews, but today It’s four!…

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata

Once again I have amassed three seemingly unrelated books in need of review. One takes place in the U.S., one in Chile, and the third in Japan. Two are contemporary, while one has historical elements to it. Two have female protagonists, with the third having more than one woman at the heart of its story. One is a debut, two are books in translation, and one I listened to on audio. With so little in common, nothing else would do but to “Clear the Shelves” with some mini-reviews! …
